Chapter 01 · The warning
Dispatch from 2035

First
the food.
Then the
teenagers.

4th
Most international city in the world — yet newcomers locked out of work entirely.
1.2M kr
Price of a single allotment. Food anxiety has outpaced the condo market.
Homeland Harvest rising in the polls — promising sovereignty through exclusion.
Sept 5, 2035
— left on the kitchen table
Hi Mom, Dad,

I'm okay. I know you're worried, and I'm sorry for disappearing like this. But I tried so many times to talk to you. You never listen.

You fight so hard to hold on to your old life. You don't realize everything's already changed, and I can't forgive you for letting it get this far.

That's why I've decided to leave. There's no future here, not in Malmö, not like this. Homeland Harvest seems to be the only ones working for real change.

I'm leaving my phone here so you can't trace me.

Love you, Ella.
Chapter 02 · The insight

What if both crises
have one solution?

Two stories nobody connects. They are the same story.

🥬
The Food Crisis
Indoor farms keep failing. Allotments speculate to 1.2M kr. Supply chains fragile. Heritage seed knowledge dying.
Production ≠ distribution
=
👐
The Job Crisis
Newcomers locked out of Swedish job market. Diaspora food knowledge unrecognized. Integration without belonging.
Skills ≠ entry point

The people locked out of work
are the ones whose grandmothers
know how to feed the city.

    Chapter 04 · A day in 2050
    Tuesday · 26 August 2050 · Sofielund

    Ella's Tuesday.

    06:30
    Rooftop · home
Her partner Aziz is already on the rooftop checking the okra — a Sudanese variety brought in by a newcomer five summers ago. The municipal seed library has copies now. Ella checks the bees.
    07:15
Sofielund Food Hub · 4 min walk
Walks to the Hub where she works as Welcome Coordinator. Today she's onboarding two new arrivals — a Ukrainian, an Eritrean. Her job is to ask one question. "What did your grandmother grow?"
    09:00
    Food Lab · with kids
Twelve-year-olds from Rosengård arrive for a workshop. Ella shows them how to read the moisture in fermentation crocks. Elias asks her — in Arabic — if she'll be at the Harvest Parade. Nobody finds it remarkable.
    11:00
    Möllevången restaurant
B2B agent pings: Möllevången restaurant needs 4kg oyster mushrooms. She walks them over — 8 minutes. Earns 340 CalorieCredits + 180 kr direct. No middleman. The chef asks her to cater an event next month.
    13:00
    Teen track · gap-year cohort
She sits with this year's 16-year-olds — the ones who would have left for Homeland Harvest in another timeline. They debate seed sovereignty over lunch. One of them reminds her of herself.
    19:00
Kitchen · home · with Mom & Dad
Her parents come over. Sandra still works at the police, off shift now. They eat together — okra stew from the rooftop, Hub sourdough, fermented carrots, honey from the Möllevången roofs. Her dad asks the question he asks every Sunday. "Are you eating?" Ella laughs. "I'm eating. I'm feeding."
    Chapter 05 · The network

    From one Hub
    to a city remade.

    🌱
    Teens
    The next Ella

A reason to stay. Meaning, work, community — the life she chose instead of the camp up north.

    🏛️
    The City
    Malmö Stad

Three crises solved at once: jobs, integration, food sovereignty. Empty buildings activated at minimal cost.

    🍳
    Restaurants

    Malmö 2050

    We don't integrate
    newcomers.
    We rely on them.
